I never knew there was another name for buttercup flowers until I met my mother-in-law, Regina. She and her husband disagree about the name of this flower every spring. He calls them buttercups and she calls them "jonnacles".
When I her the term "Jonnacles" the image of pirates and "RRRRR" and "Ahoy, Mates" run through my mind. I don't know why, but the term always sounds like something more associated with pirates and their ships than a beautiful yellow flower.
Then talking about buttercups always makes me start singing: "Why do you build me up (build me up) buttercup baby when you let me down (let me down)... I need you (I need you) more than anyone baby la la la from the start So build me up (build me up) buttercup Don't break my heart" And this tune never fails to run relentlessly through my mind for days. Even now as I type this I can't help but to sing this song!
No matter what you call them, they're still such fun little flowers. But I don't think the song would flow as well if it were called by another name.
